M. P. Birla
Medical Research Centre has been
established in the year 1988
with the following objectives:
To undertake
and organise Medical Research,
to take-over, establish aud
provide maintenance facilities
for Medical Research and to
undertake, prosecute, develop,
help or carry on all or any kind
of basic or fundamental and/or
applied Medical Research and
Scientific Research work in
connection with or relating to
surgical, clinical, research
problems which will, without
prejudice to the generality of
the said field of research,
include research in the
following directions:

To carry
out special enquiries for
study of Tropical and
metabolic diseases.

To make
an epidemiological study of
diseases in the community.
-
To make
experimental studies in
attempts to evolve effective
and practicable methods of
controlling the diseases
under Indian conditions.
-
To carry
on research on surgical
problems including in
particular those relating to
heart, brain, bones and
other parts of the human
body.
-
To
undertake research in the
field of mental health
especially those affecting
the harmony of human
relations.
-
To
undertake research to
discover means of effective
economy, in remedies so that
these remedies may fall
within the means of great
masses of Society.
-
To
encourage the discovery of,
and investigate and make
known the nature and merits
of investigations findings
and research and take action
for protection of rights
arising out of such research
findings.
-
To carry
out any of the above
mentioned research or other
scientific work, and to do
all or any of the above
mentioned things and things
incidental thereto.
This research
centre now has three units in
the following places in India:
M. P. Birla
Medical Research Centre,
Calcutta,
M. P. Birla Medical Research
Centre, Birlapur (West Bengal)
and

M. P. Birla
Medical Research Centre, Satna
(Madhya Pradesh).

RESEARCH
ACHIEVEMENTS
Various medical research
projects have been undertaken so
far by the research centre, on
several topics of medical
sciences. The main area of
research is study of chronic
renal failure in patients before
and after renal transplantation.
Donor selection method using the
concept of Tissue Matching Index
developed newly in the centre
has started getting recognition
at international level.
